Stage passes required for this year's commencement

ºÚÁϺÚÀúÊ· graduates who will be participating in commencement on May 3 will need a stage pass to participate in the ceremony. The stage pass will make check-in quick and easy on commencement day and also allow students to ensure their name is pronounced correctly during the ceremony. Student Art Sale

The ºÚÁϺÚÀúÊ· Department of Art will host its semesterly Student Art Sale on April 25, featuring original work by students and faculty. A wide selection of handmade items — prints, ceramics, jewelry and more — will be available for purchase. Participating studios include printmaking, ceramics, and metalsmithing. The sale offers a great opportunity to support local artists and pick up one-of-a-kind pieces. Learn more about the event, including a special guest.

There are three opportunities to apply for ºÚÁϺÚÀúÊ· R1 Troth Yeddha’ Ph.D. Financial Awards in this fifth round of funding opportunities. These will support a limited number of prospective/incoming and currently enrolled ºÚÁϺÚÀúÊ· Ph.D. students for fall 2025 and spring 2026. The deadline to apply is 11:50 p.m. on May 2, 2025. Currently, no data is available on the speed of the river flow beneath the ice. ACEP's hydrokinetic team went to Galena, a community of around 500 on the north bank of the Yukon River, to measure how fast water runs under ice. Learn more about ACEP's research.

Really Free Market volunteers wanted!

The annual Really Free Market, the ultimate freecycling event, is right around the corner. Volunteers are needed to help unload and sort items as they arrive;Ìýkeep traffic moving safely through the lot; be of assistance and keep an eye on the public while they scoop up all the great stuff; and clean up as the event winds down. Expert offers tips for gardeners to keep slugs at bay

Learn how to keep slugs from enjoying more of your garden than you do during a free statewide webinar. Joey Slowik, an integrated pest management technician with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service, will share best practices for designing your garden to discourage slug incursions. Roses for Resiliency – Memorial Garden

This Sexual Assault Awareness Month, ORCA POD and friends invite you to join us in honoring survivors of sexual violence at our Roses for Resiliency – Memorial Garden in Constitution Park's Circle Garden on Friday, April 25 from 2-3:30 p.m. This meaningful display of teal roses symbolizes our steadfast support for Alaskans and college students who have experienced harm due to intimate partner violence. Together, we stand in solidarity, fostering resilience, remembrance, and hope for a future free from violence. This year's theme for SAAM is "Together We Act, United We Change." Certified food protection manager classes scheduled

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service will offer three certified food protection manager classes in May and June. The course will cover the material required to pass the National Restaurant Association's ServSafe Manager exam for Alaska. Read more and register for the classes.
