Join a Zoom talk on Friday, May 2 from 3-5 p.m. on the mass emigration of Mississippian peoples from the Savannah River Valley in
the 14th century. This presentation explores how incoming migrants reshaped community
life on the Georgia Coast, using archaeological surveys to reveal how displaced groups
and local populations negotiated shared resources and forged new social and political

New book explores the skies with Dene knowledge
Chris Cannon, an assistant professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks College
of Indigenous Studies, has published "In the Footsteps of the Traveller: The Astronomy
of Northern Dene." Read more on the new book.
A two-day wood-drying workshop on May 7-8 will teach participants tools and techniques
for drying lumber in Alaska to maximize yield and quality, while managing loss from
warping, splitting and decay. Equipment options for every budget will be considered.

The Arctic Innovation Competition awarded over $45,000 on Saturday, April 19, at the
8 Star Events Center in Fairbanks. The competition had almost 150 submissions entered
by participants across Alaska and the U.S. Learn more about the competition and winners.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service is offering a Certified
Food Protection Manager class on Wednesday, May 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. that
will cover material required to pass the National Restaurant Association's ServSafe
Manager exam for Alaska. The class is available statewide via Zoom or in person at
the Tanana District Cooperative Extension office, 1000 University Ave., Fairbanks.
